Virtual Production – Art Department Content Creation (PXO)

The focus of this 12-week course is to provide you with the skills to advance your career in the growing field of virtual production as a Virtual Art Department (VAD) artist. The course is comprised of a series of three microcredentials, each focused on the specific skills required for a particular area of virtual art department content creation.

Hardware Requirements

  • a Windows PC capable of running Unreal Engine and videoconferencing software
  • an Internet connection capable of minimum 50 MBPS for downloads and 10 MBPS for uploads
  • an Ethernet (non-wifi) connection is recommended
  • a dual monitor setup is recommended

It is strongly recommended that you complete the three microcredentials in consecutive order. The knowledge and skills learned in the previous course will be built upon with each additional microcredential.

Core Techniques in Visualization (PXO151)

This microcredential offers a thorough introduction to the world of virtual production, starting with the basics and advancing through specialized techniques and tools within Unreal Engine. It is designed to build a solid foundation in both the technical and creative aspects of virtual production.

Gain hands-on experience with modeling, lighting and scripting. The course emphasizes practical applications in film and television production, as well as advanced topics such as photogrammetry and lighting inside Unreal.

Virtual Production Content Creation (PXO152)

This microcredential delves into the nuances of virtual production, starting from the intricacies of digital matte painting and 2D elements, advancing through Unreal Engine's Blueprints for creating immersive interactions, to optimizing for LED wall delivery.

It covers practical on-set applications, motion capture technology, seamless integration of visual elements and comprehensive critiques to refine students' projects. Additionally, it encompasses camera basics, on-set etiquette, source control and specialized Unreal Engine tools for landscaping.

Unreal Performance Optimization (PXO153)

This advanced microcredential dives deeper into Unreal Engine's capabilities, offering an immersive exploration of complex lighting, particle effects with Niagara FX and performance optimization.

Learn how to create immersive, interactive virtual environments with lessons on advanced Blueprints, nDisplay and Remote Control API. Understand how to craft your projects for real-world applications, particularly on LED volumes, with key optimization techniques.
