The Revit Essentials is an accelerated program that allows students to quickly gain skills in Building Information Modelling. The program concentrates on the Revit software tools students need to construct schematic designs, visualization and detailed design/construction, 3D architectural modelling, parametric building design tools, and creating working drawings from models.
Please note: As a Seneca student, you will receive free access to AutoCAD on your personal device with a one-year Educational license. Instructions for downloading the software will be posted by your instructor on Learn@Seneca.
The software required for the AutoCAD and Revit courses must be downloaded to each student's personal computer. Seneca strongly recommends that students use a device with a Windows operating system for these courses.
To learn more about the courses that are required for each of Seneca's AutoCAD and Revit programs, please review our Pathways Map.

Recommended - ATC111 or an introductory AutoCAD course or equivalent industrial experience
In this course students prepare building models and are introduced to all phases of the building process from conceptual design studies to the creation of construction documents and schedules
In this course students expand on the knowledge and skill acquired in "Revit Architecture - Fundamentals". Students prepare more complex 3D designs and create advances construction documents.
The course introduces students to the software's interface and basic HVAC, Electrical and Piping/Plumbing components that make the Revit MEP software powerful and flexible engineering modeling tool. Students become familiar with the tools necessary to create and document a complete parametric model. The practices are designed to take the student through the basics of a real world project, from linking an architectural model to an MEP template to using Revit MEP tools to design HVAC, electrical, plumbing and piping systems to create complete construction documents.
Experience with internet technologies.
This introductory course takes a comprehensive survey of the fundamentals of graphic design paired with the relevant software and processes involved for print and web publishing. It is designed for those wishing to pursue a career in online and desktop design or publishing. Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of; type, graphic elements, preparing digital art, working with colour and file preparation for both print and online publishing. Participants are given a comprehensive "jump-start" in working with industry standard desktop publishing and web design programs including; Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign and Dreamweaver.
This hands-on course begins with the core features of photo manipulation and continues with advanced functions that focus on measurable improvements in productivity and speed. Topics include using layers to build composite images, adjusting tonality, retouching images, using filters, feathering photos, masking, colour range selection, professional retouching skills, systematic image analysis, filter technology, advanced composite images and colour models.
In this course, students obtain the requisite skills to utilize InDesign - Adobe's powerful page layout application. Using practical hands-on projects they create ads, brochures, newsletters, business cards and long documents for print and PDF distribution, apply advanced typesetting functions, control and edit documents, and manage output.
DGD100 and Photoshop knowledge is recommended
Students discuss and practice creating illustrations using strategies for easy execution. Topics covered include: drawing, typography, compound paths, special effects, three-dimensional objects, layers, masks, complex patterns, blends, effects, custom colours, transformations, transparencies and blend modes, perspectives, graphs, gradients, creating brushes and graphic styles.
MCT100 or equivalent experience.
Using extensive hands-on practical projects, students learn how to create lines and shapes, edit objects and typographical elements in Illustrator. Students create colourful designs, alter type for display heads, mask objects, use special filters and EPS files in other programs.
Basic Computer Skills
Explore the various elements of Adobe InDesign interface and design professional documents such as advertisements, brochures, business cards and more. Prepare files for print and PDF distribution.
MCW677 or equivalent experience
Work with advanced InDesign techniques to enhance the look and functionality of documents. Students manage long documents, handle page elements, work with styles and prepare documents for print and PDF distribution.
Photoshop is the industry-leading standard in image-editing software. It allows users to create and manipulate images with a freedom that is only bound by the imagination. Learn to develop workflow techniques that will maximize your creative potential, create powerful images for the web, a brochure, or just to share with your friends and family.
MCW750 or equivalent experience.
Take your Photoshop skills to the next level with this 1 day workshop. Learn advanced image manipulation techniques that will increase your productivity and creative potential. Topics include advanced image manipulation, composition techniques and special effects.
Upon completion of the program, the student will be able to:
