Upgrading for Bachelor of Science Nursing and Practical Nursing

Pre-health Sciences Pathway to Advanced Diploma or Degree This one-year certificate program provides learners with knowledge, skills and abilities to begin a diploma or a degree program in health sciences. Learners who meet the English and mathematics requirements.

English

Program What is it? Who can attend? Advantages
English: 12U Equivalency This program provides learners an opportunity to upgrade their English skills if they don’t have the high school English requirements.

Learners who complete an assessment that tests their writing and reading skills. This opportunity is recommended for learners upgrading for admission into a Seneca degree.

 

  • Tuition-free program for qualified students
  • Classes are scheduled in the evenings on Mondays and Thursdays providing flexibility between work and learning
Academic Upgrading and Youth to Postsecondary Program (Y2P) This two- to three-semester program is for learners who are missing requirements for a high school equivalency, college certificate or diploma program. Learners who are 18 years or older may apply. Qualified students will be placed in a program suited to their needs.
  • Tuition-free program for qualified students
  • Courses offered at introductory, intermediate and advanced levels
  • Students may qualify for high school equivalency certificate
  • Funding may be available for qualified students to further support learning (ex; school supply/equipment bursaries)
General Arts – English for Academic Purposes (GEA) English for Academic purposes helps English as a second language (ESL) learners improve their English skills. ESL learners who understand English at a basic level may apply. International students may benefit from our English Language Institute (ELI) program.

Continuing Education at Seneca Seneca's Continuing Education provides allows learners to take English language courses suitable to their skill level. Open to all learners with pre-requisite courses. International students may benefit from our English Language Institute (ELI) program.
  • Students can enter at a level appropriate to their skills
  • Flexible evening or weekend classes
  • Students can upgrade one course at a time while continuing to work
The Seneca English Language Institute (ELI) An intensive English as Second language (ESL) program for international students to improve their English for academic, professional or personal reasons. Domestic students may apply.
  • New intake offered every eight weeks
  • Students can enter at a level appropriate to their skills
  • International students can receive a professional program offer upon completion of ELI
  • Professional courses included in upper ELI study levels
Public school boards Toronto District School Board offers credit courses during the day and at nightYork Region District School Board and others offer similar courses. Open to all high school students and to adults with pre-requisite courses. This opportunity is recommended for learners upgrading for admission into a Seneca degree.

TVO Independent Learning Centre (ILC) TVO ILC is the Ontario Ministry of Education’s designated partner in distance education. Open to all high school students and to adults with pre-requisite courses. This opportunity is recommended for learners upgrading for admission into a Seneca degree.

  • Full range of accredited online courses from Grades 9 through 12.

Mathematics

Math: 12U Equivalency

This program provides learners an opportunity to upgrade their math skills if they don’t have the high school math requirements.

This course is equivalent to the Ontario curriculum's Mathematics of Data Management: Grade 12 (MDM4U) course.

Learners who complete an assessment that tests their skills. This opportunity is recommended for learners upgrading for admission into a Seneca degree.

The course is not available for prospective students of the Honours Bachelor of Aviation Technology (FPR) program and the joint York-Seneca Nursing (BSCN) program who need to meet additional math course requirements. Select “admission requirements” on each program page for details.

  • Courses offered contain equivalent content to MHF4U (Grade 12 Advanced Functions) and MCV4U (Grade 12 Advanced Calculus and Vectors)
  • Can be used for admission to most Seneca degrees and diplomas requiring math
  • Students can upgrade one course at a time while continuing to work
