About the Program

This program is designed to provide knowledge and skills for people working or interested in entering applied health fields such as behavior therapy and social work. It's been developed through a partnership between Seneca Polytechnic and Autism Ontario.

It will equip you with a good foundation for work as a behavior technician, a professional who works directly with individuals to implement behavior plans, observe and track behaviors, and provide support under the supervision of a certified behavior analyst. Behavior technicians often work with individuals with autism or other developmental needs to help improve their skills and quality of life.

You will learn how to identify patterns in observable behaviours, develop strategies for effective behaviour change, and cultivate compassion to create a supportive environment. In addition, you’ll be taught collaboration skills, the principles of changing behaviour, and about technology and tools used across the industry.

This training program is designed to meet the 2026 training eligibility requirement for RBT certification. This training is offered independent of the BACB. For more information on additional certification requirements, please refer to the official handbook available on the BACB website

This microcredential is eligible for the Ontario ECE Leadership Grant. This grant provides financial support to cover part-time tuition fees and fund professional development opportunities for eligible early childhood educators in Ontario. Visit Ontario ECE Grants for eligibility information.

Program Highlights

This program will be delivered fully online using a synchronous format. Through this microcredential, learners will be equipped with the skills needed to respond to a market and societal need for qualified behaviour professionals. These skills include:

  • Implementing person-centred planning including considerations for building positive engagement in sessions and creating a supportive environment to build connections with colleagues and families.
  • Using principles that govern behaviour change (prompting, reinforcement, task analysis, shaping, etc.) in daily sessions and/or services with clients.
  • Demonstrating all primary tasks highlighted in the official BACB task list which may be used to apply for credentials in jurisdictions outside of Ontario, Canada.
  • Using effective communication strategies to offer support, provide instructions, share ideas, and request clarification and mentorship from supervisors.
  • Demonstrating the four core principles of behaviour analytic services: benefiting others; treating clients with compassion, dignity, and respect; behaving with integrity; and ensuring your own competence.
  • Recording data accurately to assist the behaviour analyst in understanding behaviours, identifying patterns, and developing effective strategies to be implemented in practice with clients.
  • Preparing materials and the environment to support assessments conducted by a behaviour analyst.
  • Identifying the necessity to document and maintain a record of all client sessions as well as supervision sessions provided by the supervising behaviour analyst to meet provincial legislation requirements for ABA services.
