Mature Applicants

Certificate, Diploma and Advanced Diploma Programs

  • Mature applicants applying to a certificate, diploma and advanced diploma programs must be 19 years old by the first day of scheduled classes.
  • Mature applicants must meet program-specific prerequisite courses and additional admission requirements.
  • Mature applicants can meet English or math prerequisites by successfully completing English and math pre-admission testing.
  • An Ontario Secondary School Diploma is not a requirement for a mature applicant.

Degree

  • Mature applicants applying to degree programs must be 19 years old by the first day of scheduled classes.
  • Mature applicants must meet all program-specific prerequisite courses.
  • The 4-year honours bachelor degree programs must include six grade 12 courses from the University (U) or University/College (M) stream. Please see the program-specific webpages for more information.
  • The 3-year bachelor degree programs must include six courses from the University (U) or University/College (M) or College (C) stream. Please see the program-specific webpages for more information.
  • Pre-admission testing is not permitted to meet degree program prerequisites.

Pre-Admission Testing

Mature applicants applying to a certificate, diploma or advanced diploma program, who have not met program-specific prerequisite courses will be invited to write the mature applicant test(s) to meet English and/or mathematics requirements for their programs. Please note:

  • Testing is not permitted for chemistry, physics, biology or exercise science program prerequisites 
  • Testing is not permitted for degree program prerequisites 
  • Testing is not permitted for Practical Nursing (PND) academic prerequisites (except for English)

If pre-admission testing is recommended, Seneca will contact applicants directly by email with the details of how to complete the test(s). 

Please note: ELL100 is not permitted for pre-admission testing.

For some highly competitive programs, the English and mathematics grades or test scores can determine the ranking of applicants. It is in the best interest of the applicant to complete these requirements as soon as possible.

English Testing

Seneca suggests that you take the Duolingo external online English test. Duolingo makes test results available quickly, typically within up to a week or less. For information on how to book your test please visit: https://englishtest.duolingo.com/applicants
