Overview

NEXT OFFERING: Jan. 13 - Apr. 17, 2025

Talented, professionally trained web designers and developers are in demand. Employers recognize that Seneca's accredited college certificate program trains you to build effective, dynamic and responsive web sites that respond to the needs of business.

Students gain experience by engaging in a capstone project which simulates a freelance client experience, designing and developing a website from concept to final implementation. This intensive program is a 14-week online synchronous class, offered in January and September. Classes run Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., with lab hours from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. Faculty are available during the afternoon until 2 p.m.

Participants become proficient at designing and building web sites incorporating HTML, CSS, mobile and responsive design, Angular, JavaScript, jQuery, PHP, WordPress, Photoshop and Illustrator.

Learning Outcomes:

The graduate has reliably demonstrated the ability to:

  1. Utilize modern development strategies and tools to create responsive websites.
  2. Use coding and software development tools to facilitate and accelerate development of dynamic websites.
  3. Articulate the benefits of designing responsive websites for an optimized user experience.
  4. Use CSS media queries to support designs across multi displays.
  5. Create responsive layouts of webpages and webpage components that are accessible.
  6. Build and deploy mobile websites that can adapt to smartphones, tablets and other devices.
  7. Design and develop a website, from initial concept to final implementation, through their capstone project.

In this intensive course students learn essential graphic manipulation, visualization and composition techniques.

WWW 104 (see official outline...)
CSS Architecture

Students will continue to add industry-leading tools to their repertoire of skills. Particular focus is paid to the Bootstrap framework used to design and build responsive sites, and Angular used to build component-based dynamic user interfaces.

WWW 105 (see official outline...)
Web Programming

Learn the fundamental concepts of JavaScript that form the foundation for web programming and mobile development. Students learn how to design and deploy sophisticated user-interfaces and powerful modern dynamic web pages. Particular focus is given to jQuery.

WWW 110 (see official outline...)
PHP & Content Management Systems

As websites grow more and more complicated, Content Management Systems (CMS) become a needed reality of modern web development. This module looks at WordPress and investigates the strengths and weaknesses of using a CMS as an approach to web development, including PHP and server side programming.
