Overview

Learn to listen, speak, read and write fluently in Arabic. Our Arabic language program examines various aspects of verbal and written communication - including vocabulary, sound patterns, and sentence structures - thus building proficiency and refining conversational skills in Arabic. Students will explore Arabic culture and social conventions and have the opportunity to participate in interactive, practical lessons designed to help advance their personal and professional development.

Placement Assessment

Students with a prior knowledge of Arabic must register in LGE001 for a placement assessment. The Program Assistant will contact the students via email to arrange a free assessement for accurate placement.

Entry Requirements

  • completion of an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) equivalent

This introductory course is for students with minimal or no previous knowledge of standard Arabic. Interactive classroom participation enables students to acquire the basic skills of fluency (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) to communicate in the classroom and in real-life situations. Cultural awareness is expanded by investigating the unique characteristics of Arabic-speaking countries around the world.

A continuation of LGE177, this course solidifies and builds Arabic language acquisition in the four skills - listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The introduction of more complex structures and interactive classroom activities enables students to communicate effectively in everyday situations. The unique characteristics of Arabic culture are further explored.
