Overview

Employee Relocation Management

Whether you are new to the world of relocation or a long-time member of our industry, you can acquire the skills and knowledge required to excel in the relocation industry with the Employee Relocation Management program.

This program is designed for individuals new to employee relocation, human resources and real estate or current professionals in these fields looking to enhance their skills and advance their careers.

These courses are delivered in partnership with the Canadian Employee Relocation Council (CERC), which was founded in 1982 and remains the leading provider of information and professional education to the relocation industry.

This program is ideal for those involved in the relocation process, such as those employed in or interested in employment in the following areas:

  • corporate housing
  • global mobility
  • human resources
  • real estate
  • relocation management

Graduates of this program achieve the designation of CERC Relocation Specialist (Level I), Canadian Employee Relocation Professional (CERP) (Level II) and Canadian Global Mobility Professional (CGMP) (Level III).

Entry Requirements

  • ERM101 – Introduction to Relocation: No entry requirements.
  • ERM102 – Essentials of Domestic Relocation: Prior successful completion of Introduction to Relocation (ERM101). Additionally, membership in CERC  will be required for those wishing to hold the CERP™ (Canadian Employee Relocation Professional) designation.
  • ERM103 – Essentials of International Relocation: Prior successful completion of Essentials of Domestic Relocation (ERM102). Additionally, membership in CERC  will be required for those wishing to hold the CGMP™  (Canadian Global Mobility Professional) designation.

ERM101
Introduction to Relocation

Introduction to Relocation is the first course in this series and is a prerequisite to ERM102 and ERM103 if you wish to go on to obtain the CERP™ or CGMP designations. This course is intended to broadly cover every aspect of the relocation process and enhance your current knowledge. It is ideal for those beginning a career in the relocation profession.

ERM102
Essentials of Domestic Relocation

Prerequisite(s):

ERM101 - Introduction to Relocation
Active CERC membership

This course will help you develop the necessary skills to establish and administer an effective domestic relocation program that addresses the human dynamics of a move while meeting the organization's business objectives. Upon successful completion of ERM101 and ERM102, you will receive the Canadian Employee Relocation Professional (CERP™) designation. Recertification is required every three years.

ERM103
Essentials of International Relocation

Prerequisite(s):

ERM101 - Introduction to Relocation
ERM102 - Essentials of Domestic Relocation and CERC membership
Active Membership in CERC

In this course, you will expand upon your skills in domestic relocation to explore the complexities of international relocation. This will include building an understanding of human dynamics, repatriation, taxation and immigration. ERM103 provides you with the knowledge and tools to manage an effective relocation program for any organization. Upon successful completion of ERM101, ERM102 and ERM103, participants will receive their Canadian Global Mobility Professional (CGMP™) designation. Recertification is required every three years.

Please note: Upon successful completion of ERM101 with a minimum grade of 70%, you will have earned certification as a CERC Relocation Specialist. 

All Employee Relocation Management courses combine theory, practical exercises, and case studies relevant in day-to-day operations. These courses are accredited by the Canadian Employee Relocation Council (CERC), written and taught by industry professionals with real-world knowledge and experience.

Certificate of Completion

Upon successful completion of the program requirements, please submit a Request for Certificate of Completion Form to the Faculty of Continuing Education and Training. There is no cost for this and your Certificate of Completion will be sent to you electronically.

Karla Jensen

Karla Jensen brings over twenty years of innovative and diverse experience as a people leader and strategic business partner with a demonstrated history and proven track record of working in dynamic and fast-changing global environments.

Karla has worked in a variety of industries including information technology, high end retails, and financial services providing strong people transformation and human resources professional skills in employee relations, talent management, employee engagement, policies, and coaching. Karla is passionate about relocations and international assignments since they have always been a part of her overall responsibilities throughout her career, continuously growing, learning, and developing in this key area of the business, and having created to now overseeing globally policies.

As an experienced people professional and global mobility expert, Karla enjoys meeting new people who are also passionate about the people and the importance of successful policy development and oversight.

 

Christina McCarte

As a facilitator for the Employee Relocation Management Program, Christina McCarte is pleased and excited to share her experience and contribute toward the development of future leaders. She enjoys interacting with students and colleagues in the relocation industry.

Christina has worked in the relocation industry for more than 20 years. Her extensive experience has focused on global mobility solutions for corporate, government, and private sectors. Christina is currently an International Director at AMJ, specializing in worldwide relocation services.

Christina holds a Canadian Global Mobility Professional (CGMP) designation with the Canadian Employee Relocation Council (CERC) and has volunteered with CERC for 10+ years. She has contributed to their SME, Education, and Conference Committees.

Christina is also an active board member for the Young Professionals of the International Association of Movers (IAM), an organization dedicated to the development and growth of industry professionals across 120 countries.

 

Elizabeth Navia

As a course facilitator for the Employee Relocation Management Program, Elizabeth Navia is keen on leveraging and sharing her knowledge and experience in the relocation industry to help develop those new to the industry and its future leaders.

With 25+ years of experience in the financial services and insurance sectors, Elizabeth currently holds the position of Director, Global Mobility at Canada Life. She leads the development and implementation of the global mobility framework and programs and is the central point of contact for relocations and assignments. Previously, Elizabeth worked at Manulife and Scotiabank in global mobility.

Elizabeth holds a Master of Public Administration degree (specializing in Municipal Government) from the University of Western Ontario, a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from York University (Glendon College), and a Certificate of Human Resources Management from Toronto Metropolitan University. She also holds her Canadian Global Mobility Professional (CGMP) designation with the Canadian Employee Relocation Council (CERC).

Elizabeth is a member of CERC's Board of Directors. She also co-chairs the CERC Central Region Committee and is a member of the CERC Education Committee.
