The suite of courses in the Stock Market and Investing provide detailed overviews of investment strategies in the stock market and other investment markets.
Stock Market Investing focuses on how the market works, how to evaluate stocks through technical and fundamental analysis, and how to create a personal asset mix profile. The course will cover both theory and how markets work in practice. You will learn about the nature and type of the entire investment product range and the associated risks with each. Products such as Mutual Funds, ETFs, Stocks, Bonds and Options will be covered in detail. The course will contain a review of the basics of understanding financial statements and include an analysis of a sample company, focusing on sources of information used in fundamental analysis and a detailed review of techniques used to value the stock.
Advanced Stock Market Investing builds on the foundation established by course Introduction to Stock Market Investing. It is designed to equip students with advanced techniques and strategies in stock market investing with a portfolio manager's mind-set. This includes covering day trading strategies and advance technical & fundamental analysis. You will also learn international diversification and tax implications. No investment and portfolio management course is complete without discussing risk management. In this section, you will learn how to define, monitor and manage risk in your portfolio.
Advanced Investments builds on the foundation established by course FF310 - Introduction to Stock Market Investing. It will focus on generating investment returns primarily using stocks, Exchange Traded Funds (ETF's) and options. You will learn how to evaluate investments using basic fundamental and technical analysis, with an emphasis on generating income and capital gains. The course will cover creating a personal investment strategy and incorporating these strategies within the broader context of an existing personal portfolio. This course will provide you the tools and knowledge to use more advanced techniques and apply them appropriately to your own investment portfolios. Note, approximately half of the course is dedicated to options trading.
Continuing to build on the skills learned in Stock Market Investing, Investing in Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) is designed to give a detailed overview of investing and how to use exchange traded funds (ETFs) to achieve an investing plan. It provides a solid foundation by examining the history of ETFs, comparing ETFs with Mutual Funds including the differences in taxes and fees as well as the purchasing process through an advisor, a self-directed account, a wrap account or with a Robo-Advisor. It will review the fundamentals of investing outlining the major asset classes (stocks, bonds and cash) and how to develop an asset mix utilizing these investments.
As a compliment, Planning for Retirement provides insights on how to build a proper retirement portfolio, prepare a budget and cash flow projections, and identify and quantify sources of government income such as CPP, OAS and GIS. It will also discuss the Canadian personal tax system and items to consider for enjoying a more prosperous retirement.
