This course is designed to give a detailed overview of investing and how to use exchange traded funds (ETFs) to achieve an investing plan. It provides a solid foundation by examining the history of ETFs, comparing ETFs with Mutual Funds including the differences in taxes and fees as well as the purchasing process through an advisor, a self-directed account, a wrap account or with a Robo-Advisor. It will review the fundamentals of investing outlining the major asset classes (stocks, bonds and cash) and how to develop an asset mix utilizing these investments.
The course provides instruction on where to find relevant information and discusses various screening techniques to select ETFs. It will also provide insight on how to analyse the Exchange Traded Funds returns, beta, Sharpe ratio and costs amongst other items. The course will cover how indexes and index-based ETFs are constructed and it will discuss the difference between active and passive investing strategies. Specialty ETFs will be reviewed, including how inverse and double ETFs are structured and how they perform under different market conditions.
