Overview

Seneca Polytechnic offers the Canadian Investment Funds Course (IFC100) to enhance your technical understanding and help you successfully complete the Canadian Investment Funds Course.

This course is offered in conjunction with The Investments Funds Institute of Canada through IFSE.

Students will be given an overview of mutual funds within the context of the financial services industry. They will gain the knowledge needed for their role as a mutual funds sales representative and, through the analysis of case studies, will put their knowledge into practice. Students will learn how to evaluate clients' investment objectives and as well as the competencies to help them choose the investment strategy and vehicles that are right for them.

This course is offered in partnership with the Investment Funds Institute of Canada (IFIC) and delivered through Inventive Financial Sector Education (IFSE.) Students will be given an overview of mutual funds within the context of the financial services industry. They will gain the knowledge needed for their roles as a mutual funds sales representative and, through the analysis of case studies, will put their knowledge into practice. Students will learn how to evaluate clients' investment objectives and the competencies to help them choose the investment strategy and vehicles that are right for them.

The international financial services community is working closely with the government and police force at all levels to contain efforts by organized crime and terrorist groups to launder money and use the financial services system as a conduit for the illicit transfer of funds from the proceeds of crime. The Canadian government has put legislative mechanisms in place and established a financial intelligence unit, FINTRAC, to monitor compliance. This course will teach students about Anti-Money Laundering management programs that are in conformance with Canadian and international regulatory requirements.

Note: Successful completion of the exams allows students to apply for registration as a mutual funds sales representative through their employer and the Ontario Securities Commission.

Tuition/Fee

After registering in IFC100, students must register in the CIFC with IFSE. Instructions on registering with IFSE will be provided on the first week of the course. The following will apply to you when registering with IFSE as an IFC100 student:

  • Discounted rate of $210 * includes access to all CIFC materials for one year
  • Students must take the exam at Seneca. The exam is held at Newnham campus on the last day of the course.
  • Students who wish to take the exam with IFSE directly while registered under the Seneca code will have to pay a fee of $100 *.

Delivery

A combination of teaching methods such as lectures, small group work to facilitate the understanding of concepts necessary to complete the IFIC exam.

Evaluation

Students will be registered with Seneca Polytechnic as well as the Investment Funds Institute of Canada. Marking and grading will be done by IFIC.
