Overview

The Financial Analytics - Fintech certificate of completion focuses on the critical role of data in driving decisions within the financial services industry. It equips students with the knowledge and skills to analyze, interpret, and communicate financial data, enabling them to act as liaisons between business users and technical teams. By blending data analysis with business analysis, this program ensures that students are prepared to address the complex challenges of financial technology (Fintech) projects.

The program exists to address the growing importance of data in the financial services sector. As financial institutions increasingly rely on data to inform their product offerings, risk management, and overall business strategy, there is a demand for professionals who can bridge the gap between data and actionable insights. The Financial Analytics in Fintech program teaches students how to manage the full lifecycle of Fintech projects, ensuring that products and services are aligned with user requirements and developed with precision.

The Financial Analytics program prepares students to engage in data-driven roles within the financial industry, equipping them with both the technical and communication skills necessary to succeed in a rapidly evolving sector. By understanding the full lifecycle of financial projects and leveraging data, students will be well-positioned to make a significant impact on the financial services landscape.

Business Analysis for Fintech

This course guides the students through the different phases of the complete life cycle of Fintech projects from the perspective of a business analyst who is acting as a liaison between the financial services users and the technical teams. Students start by reviewing the different methods of eliciting user requirements and documenting them using the various requirements definition techniques. The students then learn how to convert user requirements to technical specifications that would be better suited for the usage of the technical team to drive the development of financial systems. The students will learn how to communicate with the project stakeholders and verifying through various Quality Assurance techniques that the delivered product fulfills the needs defined in the user requirements. The students will also receive an introduction to project plan creation, management, monitoring, budgeting and evaluation from the perspective of business analysts.

Data Analytics in Financial Services

Data plays a key role in enabling financial services organizations to make sound business decisions. In this course, students will be introduced to the types of data used in financial services product offerings and learn how to organize, analyze and present results through both written and visualization techniques.

Students will gain an understanding of how to tell stories about data, which can assist in the business decision-making process. The goal of the course is to prepare students to engage and be competitive by understanding a business and the data it generates, combining both to convert information into knowledge and that knowledge into action.

Credit for Prior Learning

Earn college credits for what you already know.
Prior Learning Assessment is a method of assessing and recognizing learning that is equal to college level learning, but has been gained outside a traditional classroom (through work experience, volunteering, outside study, etc.). If you can prove that the knowledge you have gained meets the outcomes of a Seneca course, then credit will be awarded.

How does the PLA process work?
Prior Learning is demonstrated through a "challenge" process. The process measures learning through a variety of methods which may include tests, portfolio assessment, interviews, demonstrations, essays, and work samples. The method used will be determined in consultation with a Program Coordinator.

The process may take from 6 to 8 weeks.

Graduation or Completion

Upon successful completion of the program requirements, please submit a Request for Certificate of Completion Form to the Faculty of Continuing Education and Training. There is no cost for this and your Certificate of Completion will be sent to you electronically.
