Overview

In the English Assessment & Placement (ELL100), trained assessors determine students' level of English language proficiency.

Take this assessment as a first step if you:

  1. Need to determine if you meet part-time program or course language requirements and which English courses, if any, are needed.
  2. Are interested in joining our ESL or English courses for personal or professional development

The assessment includes an individual speaking interview and a one-hour invigilated academic writing task. Dictionaries and other language aids are not permitted. The assessment is designed for all students, regardless of first language, educational or professional background, and more.

Please note: Your results indicate the course(s) / level(s) at which you have been assessed. For example, a result of COM101 means you are eligible to enrol in COM101.

This ESL chart shows the courses you need to complete in order to progress through the different levels available at Seneca.

Successful completion of ESL934 provides direct entry to COM101, Seneca's core communications course for certificate and diploma programs. ESL934 is also generally accepted to a Grade 12 equivalent for entry purposes into programs at Seneca Polytechnic.
