Due to the growing national and international markets, companies are looking to reach a wider range of customers. It is in the best interests of businesses to have professionally trained customer service representatives with additional language training to be the first point-of-contact for those businesses.
Having bilingual staff on-hand helps and ensures that customers are best-served in the language of choice. The languages for this Certificate of Completion have been pre-selected based on the proximity markets (French), the strategic location of Canada in North America (Spanish), and the upcoming trade agreement relationship with China (Chinese).

Designed to meet the needs of business people who want to improve their written and verbal communication abilities, this course provides practical skills in writing core business documents and presenting information in a variety of settings.
A career in selling can focus on either business to business or retail sales. This subject deals primarily with business to business selling in which students will learn and practice the fundamentals of the sales process, needs analysis, consultative selling and relationship building. Students will develop interactive selling skills through presentations and self evaluation. Emphasis will be on developing confidence, professionalism and communication skills required in today's world. This subject is offered in conjunction with the Canadian Professional Sales Association (CPSA). It is an educational requirement for the Certified Sales Professional (CSP) designation that additionally requires two years work experience in sales and successful completion of examinations, oral and written. It also meets the educational requirement for the certificate program, Professional Sales Certificate (PSC).
This course is intended to develop your understanding of customer service and the skills associated with understanding the needs of customers, meeting those needs and fostering an environment that encourage customers to return. It will be of interest to anyone who works with customers, either internal or external, on a daily basis.
This introductory course is for students with minimal or no previous knowledge of Chinese. Interactive classroom participation enables students to acquire the basic skills of fluency (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) to communicate in the classroom and in real-life situations. Cultural awareness is expanded by investigating the unique characteristics of Chinese culture and customs.
Please note: Students with prior knowledge of Chinese must register in LGE001 for a placement assessment. The Program Assistant will contact students via email to arrange a free assessment for accurate placement.
A continuation of LGE800, this course solidifies and builds Chinese language acquisition in the four skills -- listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The introduction of more complex structures and interactive classroom activities enables students to communicate effectively in everyday situations using the Hanyu Pinyin system. The unique characteristics of Chinese culture are further explored.
Chinese Language Skills 2 develops and reinforces previously learned Chinese language acquisition through extensive role-play. Focus is on both oral fluency and the written language. Chinese cultural awareness is further expanded.
In this course, students enhance their Chinese conversation skills through weekly discussions on current issues. Emphasis is placed on overall fluency, including vocabulary development, listening skills, and pronunciation.
This introductory course is for students with minimal or no previous knowledge of French. Interactive classroom participation enables students to acquire the basic skills of fluency (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) to communicate in the classroom and in real-life situations. Cultural awareness is expanded by investigating the unique characteristics of French-speaking regions around the world.
