On September 18, 2024, IRCC provided an update on study permits (or student visas) and Post-Graduation Work Permits (PGWPs) for international students.
Seneca Polytechnic is working with the federal and provincial governments to understand further how these changes will affect our students. More information will be provided as it becomes available. We are here to support you and have prepared Frequently Asked Questions webpage. Join our Ask Us Webinar to learn more or connect with The Service Hub.
Seneca Polytechnic is a leading postsecondary institution in student-focused teaching and learning. We offer a variety of part-time programs and courses that will help you develop your skills, build on your career and improve your opportunities in Canada.
You are defined as an international student if you are a citizen of another country and do not have permanent residency status in Canada. Visitors and work permit holders in Canada may study programs with a duration of less than six months without a study permit. International students require a study permit to enrol in a full-time or part-time program that is longer than six months in duration.
Refugee claimants and convention refugees, must also obtain a study permit to attend a program longer than six months in Canada. International student fees will apply.
To confirm if you are eligible to study part time as an international student, refer to the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) official website for the most up-to-date information.
For programs with admission review (noted by having an "Entry Requirements" tab on the registration page), interested international students need to submit the required documentation to the manager, academic programs found under the ‘Program Contacts’ tab on the program webpage.
International students belonging to one of the eligible student groups identified on the International Tuition Fee Exemption page may be eligible to pay domestic tuition fees under certain conditions as determined at the time of enrolment.
International students must have a study permit to complete a program longer than six months in Canada. International students with a study permit may be able to register for part-time courses or programs.
You can apply for a study permit from inside or outside of Canada. Learn more about the permit
application process and the documents required.
Prospective international students in Canada on a visitor visa or work permit may register for part-time courses or programs of less than six months in duration, as long as the program does not exceed the remaining length of their authorized stay in Canada. The six-month limit begins from the date of their initial entry; for example, if a student has only two months left in their stay, the duration of study without a study permit cannot exceed that period.
Currently, there is a temporary IRCC policy which allows certain foreign nationals who hold a valid work permit or applied to extend their existing work permit on or before June 7, 2023, to study full time or part time in Canada without a study permit, until June 27, 2026 (or until the expiry of their work permit, whichever comes first).
Intending to study part-time under the temporary IRCC policy? Visit the Government of Canada website to learn more. If you need support in determining your eligibility to study part time under the temporary policy, contact The Service Hub.
International students are subject to international tuition fees. Course fees are displayed on our website show the domestic rate. To view the international rate, you must sign in on the Part-time Studies website. Once you have added the course of interest to your cart, the fee will appear as the international student rate.
Depending on the course or program you are interested in, you may be required to demonstrate English writing and/or speaking proficiency.
